Survivors can struggle with self-blame and self-criticism. Abusive partners project blame onto survivors, who can develop distorted views of themselves (like a funhouse mirror). Self-blame can give survivors a temporary feeling of control, though abuse is never a survivor's fault. Self-compassion is key. Talk to yourself like you would to a good friend .
