About the Event
The PLEDGE is both an event and a public commitment by men to take responsibility for ending domestic and sexual violence. It is the launch of First Step’s Men’s Initiative and marks the beginning of a broader effort to engage men as leaders, allies, and role models in prevention, accountability, and culture change.
The event brings men together to stand visibly against violence, learn from national and local voices, connect with one another, and commit to ongoing action that strengthens families and communities across Wayne County.
During the PLEDGE event, men will be asked to voluntarily take the PLEDGE during a short PLEDGE ceremony. See "What does it mean to take the PLEDGE" below for more information.
While the event is open to supporters of all genders, the intention is to engage men directly in this work. Non-male allies are welcome to attend alongside a man, helping strengthen conversations, accountability, and shared commitment.
No. The PLEDGE (Part One) and The CONVERSATION (Part Two) are connected but do not require attendance at both. Each event stands on its own, and we welcome community members to attend either or both evenings.
Taking The PLEDGE is a personal commitment to accountability, learning, and action—not just for one evening, but beyond it.
Men who take The PLEDGE are invited to stay engaged in at least one ongoing way, such as:
- becoming a monthly donor (minimum $5/month),
- volunteering with First Step,
- attending a tour or information session,
- supporting a community project,
- or participating in future learning or leadership opportunities.
Participants may choose one or more of these options. Opportunities will be shared during the event, with some available for sign-up that evening.
Tickets & Registration
Yes, this is a ticketed event. Tickets must be purchased in advance online by 8p, February 10th. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
This event is intentionally designed to engage men in prevention and accountability.
Individual tickets are reserved for men to reinforce that the responsibility for ending violence does not rest solely on survivors or allies, but on men stepping forward as leaders. Non-male allies are invited to attend through the Ally Pair Admission, which encourages shared participation and connection to the men in their lives.
This approach reflects our values and the purpose of The PLEDGE.
We encourage attendees to invite a friend, partner, family member, or colleague to attend with them. If you have questions or need support navigating ticket options, please contact First Step prior to the event.
Yes. Tickets may be transferred to another guest who meets the ticket requirements (for example, individual tickets are intended for men, and pair tickets must include at least one attendee identifying as male).
