All trainings are virtual, held over Zoom, and scheduled from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.

Safety planning with survivors of intimate partner violence is critical and can save lives. There are many unique ways to safety plan, deeper than just calling 911 for intervention. Additionally, leaving or ending an abusive relationship is the most lethal time for survivors and not an option for many. Therefore, having comprehensive safety plans is extremely important. In this session attendees will learn the components of a safety plan and how to create custom plans with survivors better meeting their individualistic needs in and outside the home.

Domestic violence laws and the ways in which the Criminal Justice System responds to intimate partner violence can be complicated, especially as each community responds to it a little differently. First Step experts will help attendees understand the basics of Criminal Justice System as it related to intimate partner violence in Wayne County. They will discuss the various ways it supports and hinders a survivors access to justice and safety, and explore the subjectivity of justice and identifying ways we can empower survivors who are navigating the system.
