INSTRUCTIONS FOR PATIENTS BEING
SCHEDULED FOR SANE EXAMS
- It is in your best interest to not change clothing. If it is unavoidable or the clothing has already been changed, please put all clothing worn at the time of the assault into a PAPER bag. It is preferred that each piece be placed in its own bag but, if not possible, all can go in one. The bag HAS TO BE PAPER – NOT PLASTIC!
- If there was a vaginal assault and you need to urinate, please do not wipe afterwards and if possible, bring the urine with you (if at the hospital, ask for a urine cup to go). It is preferable to not have you urinate if possible. If you are menstruating, we ask that you bring the tampon or pad from the time of, and any used after the assault with you. Again, put in a paper bag.
- If there was an anal assault, we ask that you try not to have a bowel movement, if possible.
- Please do not bath, shower or douche.
- If there was an oral assault, please do not eat or drink anything. If it is unavoidable, or if you have already eaten or drank anything, please do not ingest anything more. In addition, please do not brush teeth or take any medications orally.
- If something comes up and you are unable to make the scheduled appointment, please contact First Step immediately at 888-453-5900. We will reschedule the appointment for the forensic exam.
